The “ALTHERA – Alternative Therapies in Maramureș and Ivano – Frankivsk” project’s main goal was to improve medical services and alternative therapies for children with disabilities in Maramureș County and Ivano-Frankivsk city.

Implementation period: 25 March 2021 – 31 December 2023

  • General: To improve the medical and complementary services of alternative therapies for children with disabilities from Maramureș and Ivano-Frankivsk.
  • Specific Objectives:
    • To build a new Center for Alternative Therapies in Recea, Maramureș, and rehabilitate the alternative therapies section of the Children Clinical Hospital in Ivano-Frankivsk.
    • To improve the competencies and performances of 14 therapists (9 in Maramureș and 5 in Ivano-Frankivsk) through specific trainings and exchanges of experiences.
    • To enhance knowledge about the causes and risks of having children with various disabilities for at least 20,000 inhabitants in the 20-39 age group through awareness campaigns.

  • 775,958 people covered by improved health services as a direct consequence of the project’s support.
  • 2 improved infrastructures for alternative therapies for children with disabilities in Maramureș and Ivano-Frankivsk.
  • 14 better qualified therapists working in the two centers.
  • 20,000 inhabitants from Maramureș and Ivano-Frankivsk were better informed on the causes and risks of having children with disabilities through awareness campaigns.

Beneficiaries: The project directly benefited 105 children from Maramureș and 70 children from Ivano-Frankivsk annually. It also supported 615 families and 14 therapists. In the long term, the project’s improved health services will cover over 775,000 people in the Maramureș and Ivano-Frankivsk regions.
