Virtual Lab

The main goal of the  “Virtual reality unites the Carpathians: Interactive school laboratories” project was to improve the quality of education and increase student motivation by integrating virtual and augmented reality (VR/AR) into school curricula. This has helped secondary schools in Satu Mare county, Romania, and the Zakarpattya oblast, Ukraine, to better prepare their students for future challenges.

Implementation period: 24 March 2020 – 23 November 2022

  • To integrate innovations and ICT based teaching technologies (VIRTUAL LAB based on virtual and augmented realities, SCRATCH programming environment) into curricular programmes and extracurricular activities of 4 pilot schools in the border communities of Romania and Ukraine;
  • To improve skills of teachers of the project region (namely, teaching staff of the pilot schools for VIRTUAL LAB, and invited teachers of informatics from other schools of the target regions for SCRATCH) in applying innovative ICT based technologies, methods of interaction with students in the curricular and extracurricular teaching process;
  • To arrange cross-border cooperation among educational institutions/authorities/ professionals aimed to increase efficiency and improve the quality of education in the border regions of Romania and Ukraine.

    • “Mircea Eliade” Secondary School, Satu Mare city, Satu Mare county; Technical School “ANGHEL SALIGNY”, Turt city, Satu Mare county – RO;
    • Department of Education, Health, Culture and Sports of Tyachiv District State Administration; Department of Education, Youth and Sports of Solotvyno Village Council, Zakarpattia region – UA.
  • 7 institutions using programme support for cooperation in education, R&D and innovation;
  • 4 educational institutions rehabilitated/ modernised.
  • 2 innovative ICT based technologies integrated into teaching process of the 4 pilot schools and tested in Satu Mare and Zakarpattya
  • 4 project pilot schools equipped with necessary material preconditions for quality educational process
  • 177 teachers and specialists trained to use the new VR Lab technology and ICT in their teaching;
  • 1 cross-border partnership established to improve quality of education in the border regions
  • 4 Virtual Labs, 1 Virtual Lab training programmeS CRATCH, 24 ICT classrooms equipped, 4 cross-border events.

Target groups and beneficiaries: 650 students, teachers and administrations of pilot secondary schools, managers and directors of secondary education institutions in Tyachivskyi district of Zakarpatska oblast in Ukraine and Satu Mare county in Romania have participated to the project activities.
3,200 students of pilot secondary schools, Teachers of secondary schools in Tyachivskyi district of Zakarpatska oblast in Ukraine and Satu Mare county in Romania will benefit from the project results on the long term. In 2022, the project won the grand prize of the Interreg Slam competition in Brussels.
