About the project:

The “Romanian-Hungarian Cross-Border Education Centre of Cultural and Historical Heritage” project addressed the limited promotion and accessibility of shared cultural and historical heritage in the Romanian-Hungarian cross-border area. It aimed to overcome the lack of adequate infrastructure and institutional capacity to support artistic training, masterclasses, and practical learning opportunities. Through significant cross-border investment, the project established a new multifunctional education centre in Debrecen and modernised key cultural institutions in Oradea. These developments created dedicated spaces for cultural exchange, education, and artistic expression, with a strong focus on preserving and promoting cultural heritage for new generations.

The EduCultCentre project illustrates how cross-border cooperation can preserve cultural heritage while making it accessible to new generations. By linking education, artistic training, and cultural promotion, the project provides a model for integrating heritage protection with cultural innovation. Its emphasis on youth involvement, artistic creativity, and intercultural dialogue offers strong replication potential for other regions aiming to revitalise cultural heritage through education and modern cultural institutions. By fostering sustainable cultural tourism, increasing heritage visibility, and building joint Romanian-Hungarian partnerships, EduCultCentre has laid the foundation for long-term cooperation, innovation, and shared cultural identity in the border region.

KEY RESULTS

Debrecen: Establishment of a fully equipped Romanian-Hungarian Cross-Border Education Centre with an event hall, ballet room, and training spaces.
Oradea: Modernization of the Țării Crișurilor Museum, creating 3,168 sqm of new exhibition rooms with modern technology like holograms and multimedia systems.
Oradea: Development and equipment of the Cultural Centre to serve as a venue for cultural training and events.
Launch of youth-oriented programmes, artistic workshops, and educational initiatives.
Hosted international youth art camps and artistic meetings to foster cross-border cooperation.
Increased the number of visitors to supported cultural sites to 25.056, contributing directly to the CO09 Sustainable Tourism indicator.
