E-THEATRUM – Virtual Theatre

About the project:

The “E-THEATRUM – Virtual Theatre – building a cultural bridge for Hungarian and Romanian youth“ project took theatre into a bold new direction by combining talent, technology, and cross-border cooperation. It created a platform where young actors, e-producers, and e-trainers from Hungary and Romania could learn, rehearse, and perform together using ICT (Information and Communication Technology), building a cultural bridge between the two countries.

The journey included a 200-hour mentoring program, during which 48 young talents trained intensively, exploring new ways to perform, communicate, and collaborate online. This preparation led to the unforgettable “Virtual Finale”, performed simultaneously on stages in Szeged and Timișoara, where singers, actors, and audiences were connected live across borders. The result was a truly collaborative and innovative cultural experience that showcased the power of technology to unite communities through the arts.

KEY OBJECTIVES

The general objective of the project is to reach talented youth groups and to involve them in programs of Virtual Theatre project.

Foster collaboration and artistic exchange between talented Hungarian and Romanian youth.
Create and pilot-test e-learning content to develop essential “e-theatre competencies” for young artists.
Involve 30 young singers/artists in the full development, training, and final performance.
Introduce the program to 2,000 gifted youth and 50 actor-school students.
Assign 10 mentors to support the artistic and digital development of the talents.

KEY RESULTS

E-Learning Platform: The “Virtual Theatre” portal was successfully deployed, featuring an LMS system and newly developed e-learning modules in English, Hungarian, and Romanian. This content was crucial for developing the “e-theatre competencies” of the participants.
A 200-hour mentoring programme was completed, intensively training 48 young talents through weekly sessions, online workshops, and webinars.
The Virtual Finale: The project culminated in the unforgettable “Virtual Finale,” a truly collaborative performance combining scenes from famous musicals (e.g., Scarlet Pimpernel, Chicago) with original works. The performance was staged simultaneously on stages in Szeged and Timișoara, connecting performers and audiences live across the border.
The final performance involved over 150 participants, including 10 virtual choirs from rural areas that joined online to sing the Virtual Theatre Anthem. The live performance was viewed by approximately 4,000 people across both countries.
