The ROOTS project, implemented in partnership between Botoșani (RO) and Ivano-Frankivsk (UA), focused on promoting local culture, preserving historical heritage, and building lasting connections. The project’s aim was to improve the competitiveness at the EU border in the area of Botoșani-Ivano-Frankivsk, based on principles of cooperation and good neighbourliness, by jointly capitalizing on multicultural heritage until 2024.

  • Establish and operationalise two new cross-border touristic products: the Botoșani Multimedia Museum of Cultural Diversity and the Ivano-Frankivsk Museum of Weapon.
  • Promote common tangible and intangible cultural heritage through two festivals in Botoșani (RO) and Ivano-Frankivsk (UA).
  • Build a network of 140 professionals from local authorities, cultural institutions, NGOs, and the hospitality business to exchange experience and work together.
  • Lead Partner: Botoșani City, Botoșani county – RO
  • Partners:
    • Department of Economic Development, Ecology and Energy Saving of Ivano-Frankivsk City Council; Center of Municipal and Regional Development – Resource Center – UA;
    • Botoșani County Department of Culture- RO.
  • 2 improved cultural and historical sites: Improved historical cellars in Botoșani and the Potocki Palace in Ivano-Frankivsk, turning them into cultural hubs.
  • 2 new touristic products: The project created the Botoșani Multimedia Museum of Cultural Diversity and the Ivano-Frankivsk Museum of Weapon, offering new experiences for visitors.
  • 2 Cultural Exchange Events: Two cross-border festivals celebrating cultural diversity brought communities together.
  • 1 Network Established: A cross-border network of 140 professionals was established to work together on future initiatives

Thanks to ROOTS, over 2,600 people directly benefited from project activities, with a long-term impact on the lives of over 1.8 million citizens in the Botoșani and Ivano-Frankivsk regions.
